Correct score predictions, from the half-time whistle.

Half-time is where a correct score becomes readable. Pick a half-time score below and see how matches in Europe's top five leagues actually finished from there.

Guide · Correct score in three steps

How to predict a correct score.

STEP 01

Estimate the goals

How many does each side usually score and concede? Two defensive teams point to 0-0, 1-0 or 1-1; two open sides make 2-1 and 2-2 realistic.

STEP 02

Shortlist two or three

No single score is likely on its own. Pick the two or three most likely scorelines that fit your goal estimate instead of chasing one exact result.

STEP 03

Re-read at half-time

The first half changes everything. Use the explorer above: at 1-0, the final score is far more predictable than before kick-off.

Half-time FAQ

Half-time to full-time, explained.

Every figure on this page is counted from real half-time and full-time scores in the top five European leagues.

How do I predict the correct score from the half-time score?

Start from what usually happens next. In 2,001 recent top-five-league matches, only 19% ended with the same score as at half-time — most games see at least one more goal. Use the half-time explorer on this page to see the most likely final scores for each half-time score, then adjust for the teams: who is chasing, who is tiring and who has attackers on the bench.

Is a 0-0 at half-time a good sign for Under 2.5?

Often, but not always. 30% of matches were goalless at the break, and 22% of those finished 0-0. The rest produced goals after the interval, so a 0-0 half-time points towards low final scores such as 1-0, 0-1 and 1-1 rather than a guaranteed 0-0.

How safe is a one-goal lead at half-time?

Safer than it feels, but far from certain. Teams leading by one goal at the break went on to win 68% of the time; with a two-goal lead that rose to 92%. For HT/FT and correct score, a one-goal lead still leaves plenty of room for a draw.

How do I use this for HT/FT predictions?

Think in two steps: how likely is each side to lead at half-time, and how likely is that lead to hold? The lead table on this page gives you the second half of that equation — combine it with each team's habit of starting fast or finishing strong.

Why do so many goals come after half-time?

Tired legs, substitutions and teams chasing the game. After a goalless first half, matches still averaged 1.51 goals after the break — so a 0-0 at half-time is far from a guaranteed low final score.

Should I back the draw when it is level at half-time?

Only with care. Of the matches level at the break, 37% still ended as draws — a second-half winner was more likely than not. A half-time draw price is value only when both sides look happy to settle.
